Kingdom Company

My most favourite project of all time! The Shakespeare project. We had to make something interactive, based on Shakespeare's Richard III. Our team consisted of Hans Janssen, Sietze Heringa, Lianne Hazendonk, Bas Teunisse and Rémy van den Wijngaart (me, of course). We took themes like Lust for Power, and Treachery, and turned into an interactive live-performance.

Kingdom Company

Project Description: We used Valve's Source Engine, combined with their models from the games Half-Life 2: Episode One and Counter-Strike and used them to build our own world. A world that revolves around solar energy. Kingdom Company is the only one that can provide the energy the world needs. It has build an enormous wall around the equator, stacking with solar panels. A mobile office moves around over the wall and follows the sun. The player enters the game before a great sabotage act by Richard, a vice-president of Kingdom Company.

The player sat alone in a private room, and could walk through the game like a normal game. What made it interesting however was the fact that he/she could communicate with us, the performers, via a headset. Almost every character in the game therefore was a performer and could give live feedback. Meanwhile, the audience could see us perform behind our PCs, or follow the game through the player's eyes. We had made a special in-game room in which we could trigger events and such, via a simple button system. The audience could see how we manipaluted the world and the player in real-time.

Below, you'll find screenshots, an in-game videos, photos, leveldesign sketches and more!

All in-game aspects were built by Bas Teunisse and me, using the Hammer Editor, Valve's props and either Valve's textures, or our own. Copyrights belong to both parties. In the screenshot section you'll find the appropriate credits.

Here are some level design sketches. It should be noted that I did not draw these. But I did help imagine them. The rooms were designed by us all, and drawn up by Bas Teunisse, Hans Janssen and Lianne van der Hazendonk. Click for full view.
